CMHA Oxford County Branch
Introduction to CMHA Oxford
The Branch is the local body that has been chartered by the Canadian Mental Health Association through the Provincial Divisions to be responsible for all affairs of the Association within a particular geographical area. In addition to the management of the local programs and affairs of the Association, a local Branch of Canadian Mental Health Association has a distinct responsibility to collaborate with the Association at the provincial and national levels. The Branch is governed by the provisions of the National Constitution and Regulations and by the provisions of the Ontario Division by-laws, as well as its own Letters Patent and by-laws, and the Branch agreement negotiated with Ontario Division.
The National Board of Directors delegates general program and fundraising responsibility to its twelve provincial divisions. The Ontario Division in turn delegates these responsibilities to the local Branches. It is important to note here that your Branch annually votes for members of the Ontario Division Board of Directors which administers the funds and general program on the Canadian Mental Health Association in the province. In turn, the Ontario Division Board selects one of its members as your provincial appointee to the Canadian Mental Health Association National Board of Directors.
THE COMMUNITY YOU SERVE is quite different from any other in terms of mental health services which it may possess or need. Programs must therefore be developed or adapted locally by Branches to meet their community's specific requirements. The Branch Board has a responsibility to the community and an obligation to report its progress at regular intervals to that community as well as to the Division. The Annual Meeting of the Branch provides the opportunity to perform this kind of reporting; however, progress reports should be an on-going activity.
